Eastgate, designed by Cooper Cromar for Clyde Gateway Developments Ltd, was awarded Scotland’s Best Commercial Workplace award at the British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards on Friday.
The BCO Awards Judges commented: “The new headquarters of Glasgow Community & Safety Services caters seamlessly with the varying uses demanded from it - from the CCTV monitoring unit through to public exhibitions. The building stands proud in its location and is the true embodiment of sustainability with its BREEAM excellent accreditation.”
Located on a brownfield site 300 metres to the East of the historic Bridgeton Cross, the 65,000ft² building’s aesthetic draws inspiration from and interprets the former tenemental and industrial warehouse architectural legacy of the Mile End area in a contemporary manner, and the wedge form of the building provides a powerful urban edge to London Road.
The four storey office accommodation is arranged around an inspired atrium space which acts as a central business and social hub experienced by all who use and enter the building, providing a high quality of light and transparency to the building frontage and interior.
Eastgate will now go forward to be judged by the National Judging panel in July, with national prizes awarded on October 1 at the BCO Awards Dinner, Grosvenor House, London.
