This project comprises the refurbishment, internal re-configuration and extension of an existing 1980’s open plan primary school, as part of South Lanarkshire Council’s five year school modernisation program.
A new lightweight aluminium roof with careful detailing contrasts with the existing red brick building and forms a welcoming canopy over the main entrance.
Internally, a former open plan teaching environment has been sub-divided to form individual classrooms, with new external amenity space and toilet pods.
The materials used throughout the development, including zinc cladding and staffordshire blue brick, not only withstand potential vandalism but also brighten up the school’s visual appearance.
A combination of bespoke ventilation stacks, acoustic air inlets and sun pipes provide a sustainable solution and high levels of daylight and natural ventilation, despite the school’s close proximity to the busy M74.
