This project comprises the consolidation and refurbishment of office laboratory and manufacturing facilities for IBM, Valley Park Business Campus, in Greenock.

IBM ceased manufacture at its Spango Valley campus several years ago. The former manufacturing site was purchased by Highcross in 2005, and as masterplanners Cooper Cromar has developed a strategy to consolidate IBM’s extensive retained facilities such as their customer contact centre for Europe, into a more efficient spatial and operational arrangement while freeing up redundant laboratory and office space to create the new Valley Business Park, utilising strategic demolition and refurbishment but informed by a sound analysis of the quality, usability and flexibility of the existing building stock.

On one level the masterplan is highly strategic, selectively demolishing buildings to free up the frontages of others and to create good access to otherwise landlocked sites, however on another level it is highly sensitive to the qualities of the various buildings themselves.
