The masterplan development of the East Docks at Burntisland Fife promotes the sustainable delivery of a high quality built environment comprising 800 residential units, 25000ft2 office space, 10,000ft² industrial space, 30,000ft² retail space, a 1.75 ha public park and quality public realm.
A series of public squares and a clearly defined hierarchy of streets both work together with the existing natural features of the site to create a sense of place. From this a number of character areas evolve, each with its own proposed mix of users, diversity of building scale and layout.
The proposal integrates with the existing town infrastructure achieving a legible ease of movement for both pedestrians and vehicles, exploiting views of the Firth of Forth from all view corridors.
The Firth of Forth becomes a focal point of the masterplan providing water sport activities and a unique beach environment within the sheltered harbour area. In terms of wider river based connectivity the possibility of a water ferry connection between Burntisland and South Queensferry is being investigated.
