Beckford Primary School in Hamilton is the third project which Cooper Cromar have undertaken as part of the South Lanarkshire Council Primary Schools Refurbishment Programme, the total scope of which encompasses 14 schools spread across the entire region.
A new secure entrance lobby marks the entrance to the school. Internally a former open plan teaching environment has been sub-divided to form individual classrooms, circulation areas, dedicated staff and other welfare areas. Additional space has also been created for new teaching areas including nurture and CUSTTAD rooms which offer a balance of educational and domestic experiences aimed at supporting the development of the children.
The new extension has been designed to complement the fabric of the existing building by utilising many of the same materials. Externally, the site has been reorganised to ensure the safety of the children by separating pedestrian, vehicular and service access, with increased car parking provision for the teaching staff.
