An expert view

The Grid, a new 12 storey office development in the heart of Glasgow’s commercial core, is set to redefine workplace and occupier amenity provision, and will raise the bar for city office developments. More than just a commercial development, it’s a bold addition to the skyline of Glasgow that puts health and wellbeing to the fore and provides a range of exemplary spaces for occupiers to step away from their workplaces, whether they want to unwind, socialise or just enjoy the view.

The Brief

The way we work is changing at a pace and therefore workspaces need to respond. Occupiers are demanding more flexibility, more of a community and a better work/life balance in their workplace. CEG's brief for the Grid was to respond to this fast changing environment and to create a product that would be unique, not just in Glasgow but throughout the UK. This would require a bold and creative vision for the new building which would incorporate an understanding of the role of wellbeing in modern workplaces, and put work-life balance at the heart of the design.

The Design

The Grid is a state-of-the-art commercial workplace occupying an entire city block and which provides 275,000 sqft of Grade ‘A’ office space across 12 storeys with highly efficient and flexible typical floorplates of 24,500 sqft. Thanks to the sensitive approach to building massing, combined with careful negotiations with Glasgow City Council, our client’s expectations for the scale of development were far exceeded.

The extent and scale of the ground floor staff amenity and well-being provision together with high level terraces providing breath-taking views from the Sky Garden, roof-level communal Loft and garden, will ensure that The Grid sets new standards for future workplace design.
