A blueprint for success

Glasgow Fort is one of Scotland’s premier regional retail and leisure destinations. This complex project has set a new standard for edge-of-town retail and leisure developments, and our skill in regeneration, placemaking, cutting edge retail design and attention to detail have created a blueprint for future success.

Comprising approximately 900,000 sqft, this multi-award winning project has been recognised with two Scottish Property Awards and the highly prestigious REVO award for the Best Out-Of-Town Retail Scheme.

The Brief

Our goal for Glasgow Fort was to put people and place at the heart of a retail and leisure centre and create a unique sense of identity for this flagship destination.

To be delivered over several phases it would inevitably be a lengthy and complex process and would require skill and expertise in both placemaking and design and planning to deliver a bold vision that would set Glasgow Fort apart from other destinations.

The Design

The retail, leisure and restaurant accommodation has been arranged in an innovative semi-circular open “street” format. Putting placemaking at the heart of our design process, a covered pedestrian walkway brings customers to the heart of the centre, with continuous structural glazed canopies to the retail frontages linking the three principal landscaped “squares”.

Great emphasis has been placed on the aesthetic qualities of the exterior envelope which utilise a rich palette of materials including a variety of metal shingles which give the centre a sculptural quality on approach and when viewed from the adjacent M8 motorway.

The most recent phases have included an M&S department store, a Vue Cinema, a 600 space multi-storey car park and significant other restaurant space which has broadened the appeal of the centre even further and established Glasgow Fort as a night-time destination.

Awards

We don’t design for awards; we design for people. But once in a while, it’s nice to take stock of external measures of success.
